MANUKAU AMATEUR CLUB.

RACES AT WESTERN SPRINGS. The Manukaji Amateur Cycling Club conducted two races at the Western Springs Stadium last evening. The junior race attracted a field of eight, and was over a dis- £ tance of half a xnile. W. "Webb, 100 yds, was tibe limit rider, while J. T. Colman occupied the scratch mark. The race was a very even contest and the field was bunched on the home banking. A newcomer in A. Robinson wa3 at the head of the field when the finishing straight was reached and in a fast sustained sprint came away to win by two clear lengtEs. The p-lacings were:— A. W. D.. Robinson, 50yds, 1; W. C. Paul. 75yds, 2; H. V. Gordon, 15yds, 3. Time., im 5 2-ss. I* The sfenior contest was over two mileaEj a fraction over six laps. Splendid pacing work by the two back markers, Whittefr and Roberts, allowed them to get their fielll ~ with two laps to igo. The limit rider wSs W. Borland, 3Soyds. At the bell Roberts had the lead with Whitten on the inside. The pair remained in this position until the 220 yds mark when Whitten went to the front and drew away in the straight to win by one length ancl a half, with two lengths separating the next two riders. Result: J. Whitten, 60yds, 1; L. B. Roberts, 80yds. 2; E. D. Andrews, 200 yds, 3. Time, 4m 27 2-os.

THE AUCKLAND CLUB. A three laps handicap was decided by (lie Auckland Club at the Western Springs Stadium last evening. A good entry of fifteen was received and the race was divided into two heats. In the .first heat the middle and frontanarkers set a strong pace with the result that S. Hayes, scr., made littlo impression on them. The winner shot out early in the final lfcp_ and won bv three lengths. Results:—First heat; G. Hall. 110 yds, I; C. Yule. 140 yds, 2; L. Hall, 170 yds„ 3; S. Arnott, 170 yds, 4. Time, lm 49 l-ss. Second heat: F. 150ydti, 1; J. McDonald, 70yds, 2; C. Woods, 170ydfi, 3: L. G. Pinfold. 90yds, 4. Time, lm 16 2-ss. The field bunched at the half distance and over the last circuit the pace was exceptionally fast. In a close finish Lowndes just defeated McDonald by half & length. , Final.—C. Yule, 143 yds, 1; L. G. Pinfold, 90yds, 2; G, Hall, 110 yds, 3. Tiine, lm 525, The eight riders were bunched just after the initial lap. At tho bell McDonald and Lowndes wore well' placet!, but do\Vn tho back straight Yule and Pinfold came fast. With a finu effort up the straight Yule went over the line a winner by two lengths. It was his first win since leaving the amateur ranks last road season-
