THAMES COUNTY NOTES.

[By TELECKArH. —OWN COIIItESPON'DENT. J THAMES, "Wednesday.

The Thames County Council met today, the chairman, Mr. H. Lowe, presiding.

In forwarding a payment of £498 the conservator of forests suggested that a proportion should be spent on improving the road between Hikuai and the department's plantation camp. The road was in a very bad slate. The engineer, Mr. J. Higgins, reported that repair work had commenced on the sector referred to.

There were many requests from settlers for urgent repairs to backblocks roads. One from Puriri for 30 chains of metalling work stated that settlers were isolated for five months in the year and suffered undue hardship in carting cream to the nearest dairy factory. The majority of the requests were referred to the engineer.
