MOTOR TYRES STOLEN.

TWO YOUNG MEN PUNISHED. ONE SENTENCED TO GAOL. "I have spoken to the probation officer about the accused," said Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday when Fredericli George Lester, aged 24, seaman, and Alder Francis Walding, also aged 24, labourer, appeared for sentence for stealing two motor-tyres,, two spate rims, and petrol and oil, of a total value of £B, at Waihui, near Taihape, and at Taihape, on February 4. When the accused first appeared before the Court on Monday it was stated that they were passing through Taihape on a light motor-lorry and stole a sparer rim and tyre from a motor-car which they passed on the road. When this tyre burst they took another rim and tyre from a garage, leaving the tyre which they had first stolen. At the same time they stole petrol and oil from the garage. The magistrate said he had decided not to sentence Walding to a term of imprisonment, but would place him on probation for three years and order him to make restitution. Lester would be sentenced to one month's imprisonment and ordered to remain under the supervision of the probation officer for three years, restitution to be made in his case also.
