FARMERS' EXCURSION.
SOUTHERN TOUR SUGGESTED. PROPOSAL OF RAILWAYS. Last year the Railway Department conveyed 1000 farmers and their wives from the South Island to various parts of the North Island. The tours were most successful and the .farmers from the South were enabled to see the farming methods adopted in the North Island and visit many places of scenic interest. Requests have been made to the department to arrange a reciprocal visit from the North to the South Island, and provided sufficient, support is forthcoming an excursion from the Auckland province to tlie South Island will take place in May. It is proposed to leave Auckland on May 13, visit Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown and return to Auckland on May 25. It is estimated the trip will cost approximately £l9.
The Auckland provincial branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union is co-operat-ing with the Railway Department in organising tho tour. The excursion will be a limited one, and details will be finalised when the commercial branch of the department has definitely ascertained the extent of support forthcoming.
