INITIATIVE AND PROGRESS. TRIBUTE AT MANCHESTER. [from our own correspondent.] LONDON.'Feb. 4.
In his speech at the annual meeting of Messrs. J. F. and H. Roberts, Ltd. cotton textile " manufacturers, of .Manchester, the' chairman, Mr. Percy C. Fish, referred at some length-to conditions in New Zealand. After giving the value of New Zealand exports, and imports and indicating the trade balances of the past few years, he said: " This creditable achievement should be better known, as it shows what can be done when real sterling efforts are exorcised, as New Zealand in the general boom period, when the land V'alues in particular soared -to ridiciilous had to contend with the inevitable slump l llVtr d aL referred to; the " use more wool campaign. inrr » he added, '• to read the pubUsnea reports of the influential business men in the Dominion, as they never seem to lose an opportunity of furthering the in teres s o? the old country.
