ELECTRICAL WIREMEN.
REGISTRATION BOARD.
APPORTIONMENT OF COSTS.
The responsibility of power boards in supporting the Electrical Wiremen's Registration Board was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Power Board yesterday. The general manager, Mr. R. H. Bartley, stated that the expenditure of the Registration Board amounted to £2140, and the income to £942, leaving a balance of £ll9B to bo collected from the supply authorities. The Auckland board's proportion was £199.
Mr. Bartley said it appeared that the board had to pay this amount, but it seemed to him to bo absolutely wrong that costs of this kind could be incurred and charged to the supply authorities, who had no control whatsoever over this expenditure. It was a matter which should be dealt with by the Power Boards' Association, and he would recommend that the board should adhere to the principle that charges of this nature should bo met in the ordinary way out of a common fund or, failing this, that the income should be made to bajanco the expenditure, "It is not so much the actual amount this board is asked to meet on this occasion, but it has no guarantee of what it will bo asked for in the future," said Mr. Bartley. "I think the board will agree with me that the matter is not sound in principle." The chairman, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, said ho thought the matter was not on a satisfactory footing, and that it should be referred to the association.
It was decided to pay the amount under I protest and to refer the matter to the Power Boards' Association.
