Shakespeare and Bernard Shaw are favourite playwrights in the Turkish theatres of Constantinople. Daring a recent tour of the United States, Mr. Edgar Wallace was interviewed 87 times and photographed 23 times in 26 days. He wrote more than 3000 autographs. Two Goldsmith price records were recently set up at Sotheby's London—a letter of 1775 of the author's "brought £I3OO and a copy of " The Vicar of Wakefield " realised £1470. The prices paid in England for first editions, manuscripts, and other prizes of the collectors are amazing. The MS of Bernard Shaw's play, " You Never Can Tell," eight pages of which are in his handwriting, sold recently for £I2OO. The engagement is announced of Miss Pamela Frankau, who is tho younger daughter of Mr. Gilbert Frankau, the novelist. Miss Frankau is herself tho author of four books, the first of which, " The Marriage of Harlequin," appeared when she was only seventeen.
