OBITUARY.

MR. J. H. DRURY. Mr. J. H. Drury, an old and wellknown colonist, died recently at his residence in Sydenham, Christchurch. Mr. Drury was the descendant of a very old English family, being a son of the late Dr. Drury, of Hyde Park, London, and a nephew of the late Admiral Drury of the Mediterranean _ Fleet, who took official soundings in New Zealand waters in the early days. He was educated at the Medical College, Epsom, and was created an hon. orary life member of tho old Epsomian Club, London. Ho was also a life governor of the famous Blue Coat School. Mr. Drury came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Waimate in 1878, and for some years settled in Akaroa, whore he served in the last war with the Maoris. For the pant 50 years ho had lived in Christchurch. During later years ho was associated in a structural and general engineering business with his eldest son, Mr. G. F. Drury. He is survived by his widow, three sons, Messrs. G. F. Drury, J. S. Drury and L. R. F. Drury, and a daughter, Mrs. Keene, of Tauranga.

MR. F. ASHER. The death has occurred of Mr. Fred. Asher, aged 58, at his residence, 6, Ngapuhi Road, Remuera. Mr. Asher was born at Great Gonorby, near Grantham, Lincolnshire, accompanying his parents to New Zealand at the age of 10 years. The family resided for some years in Auckland and then in New Plymouth, eventually returning to Auckland, where Mr. Asher had lived ever since. Mr. Asher was in the employ of Burgess, Frasor, Limited, of New Plymouth, for over 20 years, being accountant to tho Auckland firm of A. B. Wright and Company, Limited, for the last nine years. Ho was prominent in musical circles in both Auckland and New Plymouth. He is survived by Mrs. Asher and one daughter, Miss Hope Asher.
