CRICKET TEST TEAM.

GATHERING AT MELBOURNE.

DEPARTURE FOR TASMANIA.

(Received March 7, 11.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 7.

The Australian test match cricketers were all assembled for the first time today, with the arrival of the South Australians. They were the guests of the Commercial Travellers' Association at a luncheon. Tine 300 members gave the players an ovation, and the captain, W. M. Woodfull, had a flattering reception.

The speeches sounded a note oil optimism. The fact was emphasised that it is the youngest team that has ever gone to England, and that it would be a great triumph if it regained the " ashes." The team left for Tasmania in the afternoon. There was a very gay seen eat the wharf.
