NEW LANDING APPARATUS.

I A special feature embodied in 1929 aeroplane construction is the Retractable Landing apparatus adopted by the Alexander Aircraft Company of Colorado, U.S.A. It is indicative of the same tendency to streamlining that has been noticeablo in automobile construction in recent years. The landing gear has specially designed slotted compartments underneath the fuselage into which it is drawn up streamline against the fuselage by means of a hand wheel inside the cabin. A safety lock is provided _ for the landing gear in its extended position. In order to land, the pilot merely releasesa trigger, which drops the under-carriage into position where it is automatically locked. In exceptionally cold weather the landing gear can be cranked down mechanically by means of the hand wheel. The machine that embodies this new feature is called the " Eaglerock Bullet.' It is a particularly neat-looking 100 h.p. low-winged monoplane capable .of 130 m.p.h. The retractable landing gear and tho consequent streamlining of the fuselage is claimed to bo the greatest factor in its efficiency.
