OVERSEAS LEAGUE.

FAREWELL TO MR. ERIC RICE

Mr. Eric Rice, assistant secretary to the Overseas League headquarters in London, whose visit to New Zealand is drawing to a close, entertained members of the league at a farewell gathering held at Hie Gland Hotel yesterday afternoon. Mr. Rice during his stay in this country has done much to stimulate interest in the league and its activities, and acknowledgement of this in connection with the Auckland organisation was made by the president, Di. C. E. Maguire, who also expressed the hope that, more visits of the kind would be made in the interests of the league. Miss Quavle, secretary of the Auckland branch, also spoke of the stimulus given to the organisation by the visit of Mr. Rice and of its growing importance. W^rm- appreciation of the hospitality extended to him during his stay in New Zealand was made by Mr. Rice, and the hope expressed that lie would again be ■\ isifing the Dominion in the not too distant future. The keynote of the league, that of keeping alive and stimulating the spirit of unity among the component countries of the Empire, was stressed by the speaker, who also spoke of the way in which it was developing. Among those who were present were: Mrs. G. E. Maguire, Mrs. Hugh MacDonald, Mrs. Stewart-Massam. Mrs. F. Webster, Miss llarty, Miss Kisshng, Miss Hadfield, Miss Coats, Mrs. Gage-Brown, Airs. Reid, Mr. Chalmers, Mr.' E. W. Duncan, Mr. Cribble, Mr. Babbage, Mr. Gage-Brown, Mr. D. Carpenter, Mr. Low.
