MEETING IN WELLINGTON,
PRIME MINISTER'S ABSENCE.
EXPLANATION BY MR. FORBES*
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WELLINGTON,, Thursday. The. announcement was made to-day by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Fortes, that the Prime Minister,. Sir Joseph War 3, will not attend to-morrow's conference of the United Party, as it will be only a preliminary gathering, leading to a more comprehensive meeting to be held at a later date. Tho present meeting, he said, was to discuss arrangements necessitated by recent changes in the United Party organisation. " Under these circumstances," added Mr. Forbes, " the Prime Minister has agreed, with the advice of his friends, ■that he should continue without any interruption his treatment at Rotorua, which is showing such beneficial resulfs. I shall proceed to Rotorua later, to discuss with Sir Joseph the results of this week's party conference."
