KING'S COLLEGE SPORTS.

KEEN CONTESTS WITNESSED

CAUGHEY BREAKS RECORD

The annual swimming sports of King's College were held at the Tepid Baths last evening, when some keen competition wns witnessed, especially in the diving, in which three boys ended equal in points nnd had to continue to decide the issue. One record was established during the evening, this going to the credit of Caughey, who lowered the existing record in the 50yds. senior cup by 2-ss. The previous record of 23 2-5s was made by J. P. Farrell in 1927. The events were watched by a large number of parents and pupils. The senior cup was won by Caughey, with 15 points, Heath, 5, and Smith, 5, tieing for second place. The junior cup was annexed by Gunn, with 15 points, Moses, 4, being second and Macindoe ii and Featherstone third, equal, with 3 each. A blindfold race at the conclusion of the programme created much amusement, several of the competitors becoming mixed up in the bath and swimmins in the wrong direction. MOUNT EDEN CARNIVAL. BRIDSON AGAIN SUCCESSFUL. KEEN DIVING COMPETITION. Further demonstrating his all-round ability, G. Bridson. the holder of the New Zealand free-style titles from 100 yds to one mile, captured the 50yds Auckland championship at the Mount Eden Amateur Swimming Club's second carnival of the season held in the Mount Eden Baths last evening. However. Bridson's victory was a clohc one, as he was fully extended by R. Sellars and J. P. Farrell, the title-holder, who was third. The time of 26 4-5s was not fast. Keen competition was seen in the diving championship of the Mount Eden Club, in which R. Frankham defeated C. Witten after several extra dives had been decided. The 100 yds Fraser Cup handicap was won by the holder, A. Wicks, while R. Porteous scored in the 220 yds Weston Cup handicap. The handicap events were keenly contested and some exciting finishes were witnessed by a fair attendance of spectators. A match in the Auckland Water Polo Board's competition was played between Mount Edon and Waitemata B, resulting in an easy victory for the former. Selections rendered by the Mount Eden Boys' Brass Band under the conductorship of Mr. 11. Marsh were much appreciated. Following are tlio results:— Boys' Handicap.—First heat: D. Webster. Bs, I; D. From an even start the five competitors sped up the bath bunched together and at, the end of the lap SeHnrs was slightly in front of Bridson and Farrell the others being close up. Bridson emerged from the turn a foot ahead ot Sellars and Farrell and in the sprint to the rope he maintained his advantage and won by a touch. Sellars beat Farrell by a similar distance for second place, lime, 26 4-sfl.
