RISING IN ANNAM.
ATTACK BY MUTINEERS. BRAVE RESCUE OF WOMEN. HONGKONG. Feb. 19. Official French sources have released the details of the Annamite mutiny, when five French officers were killed at Yenbai, French Indo-China. The graphic descriptions of the actual fighting now published show that the mutiny was begun on the morning of February 10, with attacks in launches on the barracks, and also the homes of the officers. The mutineers used trench mortal's. The hero of the fighting was Lieutenant Tacon, who led a detachment of loyal Annamites; Under his skilful direction these rescued the wives and families of the French officers at a critical moment. By the next morning the Government forces had inflicted a severe defeat upon the disaffected soldiers, whose losses were heavy. On the morning of February 12, when the funeral of the five officers took place, bombs were thrown just prior to the arrival of the Governor, M. Pierre Pasquier, and his suite. The assailants were fired at, but escaped, • Martial law has been proclaimed.
