Vincent last evening;— The recent disturbance of tropical charfictoi' has passed eastward, but a fairly vigorous dopression of the westerly type is now approaching New Zealand from the Tasman Sea, and is likely to affect especially the South Island. E.vpoct a renewal of cloudy, unsettled weathor, with rain generally, particularly an western and southern districts. Thunderstorms are likely in places near the west coast. Westerly to north-westerly winds, moderate to strong, squally at times, backing to south. Seas moderating on the east coast and becoming rough on the wost coast, especially southward from Capo Egmont. Seas increasing in and southward of Cook Strait. Local outlook; Unsettled, with intermittent rain, although fair intervals will intervene. Thunder probable. Cooler temperatures. Barometer, midnight, steady . . 30.001n. GOVERNMENT REPORT. 1 The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The cyclone crossed the Auckland peninsula last night and a rather deep westerly depression is now passing the South Island. An anticyclone is advancing on to the Tasman Sea. Indications are for moderate to strong north to west winds at first, north of Foveaux Strait, but a change to strong southerlies advancing from the southward. Seas becoming rathe? rough generally. Winds backing to southerlies in the eastern Tasman and becoming fresh to strong, with rather rough seas. Weather still rather unsettled, with scattered showers, more especially in the eastern districts of the South Island. Temperatures becoming cooler. v
