A MAORI ANOMALY.

Sir, —One of the finest things the eariy missionaries did for this Maori was to make his language phonetic and save him from such orthographic* atrocities as they have in Australia, e.g., Wooloomooloo. But can anyone inform rue why Te Kooti is not spelt Te Kuti ? We do not spell Te Kuiiti as Te Kooiti; then why the "oo" in the famous old rascal's name, instead of the phonetic "u"? Tapapa, Okoroiro.
