CONTROL OF TRAFFIC.
THE NORTHERN DISTRICTS,
QUESTION OF CO-OPERATION.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI. Sunday.
The appointment of a traffic inspector to cover the Whangarei, Hobson Otamatea Counties, and the Whangarei and Dargaville boroughs, under a schetne outlined by the Main Highways Board, was the subject of a letter received by the Whangarei County Council from the Otamatea County Council at a meeting at the week-end.
The letter stated that the Otamatea County was in favour of the scheme, especially in view of the pound for pound subsidy offered by the board. The council had authorised the county engineer and the clerk to arrange a conference to consider the appointment of a joint traffic inspector. The date suggested for the conference was March 5.
The chairman, Mr. C. Webb, said nothing could be done until representatives of the bodies concerned met and got some definite information. The council knew nothing of the workings of the scheme. On the motion of Mr. Johnson it was decided to instruct the executive officers to meet the representatives of the other bodies and report.
