GRANT FOR METALLING.

UPPER AWAKINO ROAD.

GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

TE KDITI, Sunday.

The member of Parliament for Waitomo, Mr. W. T. Broadfoot, has received the following letter from the Minister of Public* Works, Hon. E. A. Ransom, in regard to a Government grant of £2 for £1 to assist in the metalling of part of the Upper Awakino Road:—

"I have to advise that this matter has received further consideration and I have pleasure in informing you that it has now been found possible to provide this sum out of the special vote for roads giving access to outlying districts and the necessary authority is now being issued to the Waitomo County Council. I would suggest it-hat the council make every endeavour to have this sum expended before March 31, in order that the Government subsidy may be paid before the end of the financial year, to avoid it becoming a charge against next year's quota."
