ACCIDENT AT CROSSING.

TRAIN STRIKES A GIG.

CHRISTCHURCH. Friday.

Serious injuries were sustained by Mr. Robert Breeze, the driver of a horse and gig, when his vehicle was struck by a train at the level crossing at Templeton this evening. Mr. Breeze was taken to hospital, and his condition is critical. The train was a special goods train from Culverden to Christchurch. Apparently Mr. Breeze did not see it as he approached the crossing. The engine struck a wheel of the vehicle and swept ifc over the cattle-stops down the lino for a distance of 30yds. The driver was carried with it some distance and then thrown clear of the rails. He suffered severe injuries to the bead and body.
