MOUNT ALBERT RATES.

Sir,—My highest payment under the old system of rating in Mount Albert was:£lß 15s sd. Under unimproved rating it is £SO 17s 2d for a paltry four-roomed cottage without modern conveniences. I must work five months and two weeks.to.pay the taxes, and then longer to pay the interest on the mortgage. After that I commence to earn my first loaf of bread. A man who may bo earning £2O a week, living in a back street, will not pay more than, say,' £l2 a year. I fear some of your readers may doubt this, but as I can produce the receipls and my books, their doubts must go. Mount Albert ratepayers will have to 'bestir themselves. Ratepayer 11.
