SLIGHTLY WEAKER MARKET.

Easier conditions existed on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, A comparatively small volume of business was transacted and prices generally were on a slightly lower plane. Interest in War Bonds was maintained at current levels, but there was no inquiry for Inscribed Stock.

In banks, with few exceptions, support was weaker. Buying limits for Commercials of Australia receded 4d to 22s lOd, but rights to the new issue were wanted 3d firmer pt 2s 3d. New South Wales had sale 2s 6d cheaper at £4O 12s 6d, with more available at the same figure. Dnions were secured Is easier at £ll 17s, with renewed inquiry at £ll 15s. In insurance business was done in Nationals for the first time since December, two transactions being recorded 9d lower at 14s 6d. South British were done unchanged at 61s. Movements in loan and agency were unfavourable. Offers for Dalgetys shaded to £ll 16s 6d, and requirements were satisfied with a single transaction at £l2, a decline of ss. In coals Renowns were done 2s lower than the last sale in December at 15s. In shipping interest was confined to Devonports and Northern Steams, the latter making a current-price sale at 13s 9d, which was the closing offer of buyers. In timbers Nationals were dealt in twice at 8s 6d, which is equal to late rates.

General investments were quiet. British Tobaccos were sought Is easier at 41s, and offers for Colonial Sugars were also a shade lower at £43 ss. In mining, except for an easing it. Mount Lyells, there was little change.
