BURGLARIES AT SHOP.
POLICEMAN KEEPS WATCH.
ARREST OF INTRUDER

WELLINGTON, Friday
Three times in the last week the premises of Messrs. Watchman Brothers, grocers, Main lload, Kurori, wero entered by burglars. On two occasions no clues could be discovered. On tho third visit tho intruder was caught. When Mr. Robert Watchman arrived at the shop on Thursday morning of last week ho found that a considerable sum in cash and a quantity of his stock wero missing. On Monday morning tho proprietors found evidence that an attempt to force open tho cash register had been made and more stock, chiefly cigarettes, had been taken. Again there wero no clues.
On Wednesday night the local policeman, Constable Catternach, hid within tbo building and waited. Suddenly tho inner door of the storeroom was opened and a man entered. Tho intruder was seized by tlio neck. A scufflo ensued and tho intruder was handcuffed. At tho rear of tho premises there was a window, from which tho glass had been removed, although in such a way tliat it could be replaced with oase. As a sequel Robert Ervino Owens, labourer, aged 28, appeared in the Magistrate's Court-charged with breaking and entering tho shop of Watchman Brothers within intent to commit theft. He was remanded until Wednesday next.
