; CHRISTIANS PERSECUTED. i • RECENT; INSTANCES. . • LONDON, Feb. 4. y The.. committee bf the Christian Protest against Russian Persecution has received a' letter from a Russian Orthodox bishop, endorsing its campaign against j. religious persecution in Russia. It gives instances of. cruelties, inflicted on Russian
priests.; Father Ncclarius, of Moscow, was beaten, _ dragged by the feet, his arms and legs were broken, wooden nails'were driven into his head and temples and molten lead. poured into his mouth in derision of the eucharist. Finally he was flung, into a cauldron of boiling water.
. . Nicodemus,., Bishop of Belgorod, was arrested at Christmas, beaten, stripped, and led out naked into the snow, where water was poured over him until he be- , v camc a jillnr of ice. ... Andronicus, Archbishop of Perm, was dragged through the streets of the city, . his eyes were poked out® and his cheeks .cut away. This caused many of his flock to become insane through terror.

Berry, sec'rotary of tho Congregational Union, Dr. J. Maclacan, Moderator of the Presby. terian Church, Dr. J. H. Hertz, the Chief Rabbi, Lord Clifford of Chudleigh, the Earl of Glasgow, Viscount Brentford, Colonel John Gretton, M.P., and many other well-known persons.
