PUMICE LANDS.

Sir, —There has bqen quite a lot written, for and against, the merits, etc., of pumice country as a farming proposition, the leading figure being Mr. Earle Vaile, who seems to be under the impression that the pumice country in Taupo area can be made into cow country at a low cost. May I ask a few questions of Mr. Vaile:—ls any of the Taupo area cattle sick ? Can the area, if cut into say 200-acre blocks, be cheaply watered ? If the Taupo country is so cheaply brought in, and such food country when brought in, can Mr. Vailo explain how it is that out of 15,000 acres I believe he owns at present, he has improved only 1700 acres? Edgecumbe. W. E. G. Holland.
