BISHOP'S FAREWELL.
SERMONS AT HAMILTON. DEPARTURE FOR CONFERENCE. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Monday. There was a large congregation at St.Peter's Cathedral, "Hamilton, last evening, when Bishop (Sherrington preached for the lqst time prior to his departure for England to attend ihe Lambeth Conference. The bishop emphasised the importance of the sacrament of holy matrimony and the privileges of family life. He mentioned the generosity of Hannah in dedicating the life of her son Samuel to God, and the example of Mary in presenting Christ in the Temple. Many Christian fathers and mothers in a sister church, he said, had done the same thing in setting aside a son for the priesthood and a daughter for the religious life. He mentioned this as evidence of the devotion of Christian parents who tried to follow literally the example given by Hannah and Mary. _ The value of religious instruction to children was also referred to Several hundred people attended the open-air service last evening conducted bv the St. Peter's Cathedral branch of the Church of England Men s Society Bishop Cherrington, Dean G. R. Barnett and the Eov. R. J. Boyfc took parr Bishop Cherrmgton spoke of the Christian truths which enabled men to bridge the gap between God and themselves The meaning and need of brotherhood were also dealt with. One of the barriers which prevented the full meaninn of brotherhood being realised in Isew Zealand, said Bishop Chernngton, was £ carping criticism of one's neighbours and the presence of snobbishness.
