NEW RAILWAY STATION.
INSPECTION BY MINISTER.
VERY SATISFACTORY PROGRESS.
COMPLETION IN SEPTEMBER* Satisfaction with the progress being made with the construction of the new railway station at Auckland was expressed by the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W.B. Taverner, after an inspection of the building yesterday. The Minister was accompanied by Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of railways, Mr. F. C. Widdop, chief engineer, Mr. E. Casey, North Island divisional superintendent, Mr. J. Dow, assistant engineer for the new works, Messrs. W. H. Gummer and C. R. Ford, architects, and Mr. A. Good, representing the contrac-. tors, J. T. Julian and Sons, Limited.
The many unique features incorporated in the building and the up-to-date appli-, ances employed in the station's construe-* tion made a strong appeal to the Minister.Mr. Taverner had previously inspected the building during week-end visits to the city, but yesterday gave him his first opportunity of visiting the station during the progress of work. Although much work yet remains to be done, the building has been advanced to the stage where its final appearance can be readily visualised.' The Minister was told that it is expected to complete the construction in September."It is a very beautiful building, and far ahead of any other station in New Zealand," said Mr. Taverner, who, as a citi-. zfcn of Dunedin, had to confess that Auckland's new station would rob the southern city of pride of place among New Zealand's specimens of railway architecture*
