LOAN TO CHICAGO.
£6,000,000 FROM CITIZENS. EARMARKED FOR NECESSITIES. NEW YORK, Jan. 26. A group of tho most wealthy citizens of Chicago, who are disturbed by comment all over the world on the seriousness of tho city's financial plight have agreed to raise among themselves 30,000,000 dollars (over £6,000,000), as a temporary loan to the city. It is to be used exclusively for the purposes of paying the employees, purchasing coal supplies for hospitals and other public institutions, and maintaining other absolutely essential services. Tho City Council made an appeal to this group for 50,000,000. dollars, but the request for a larger sum was refused.
