ANNIVERSARY DAY.
AUSTRALIA CELEBRATES. SHOWERY AND OVERCAST* (Received January 27, 9.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 27. The Anniversary Day holiday was observed throughout Australia to-day. The weather was again showery and overcast. For the third day in succession there was no play in the Sheffield Shield cricket match New South Wales versus Victoria. Numerous people were turned away and were greatly disappointed. REGATTA AT SYDNEY. BONA WINS CHIEF RACE. (Received January dB, 12.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 27. The main attraction at the Anniversary Regatta in Sydney Harbour to-day was a sailing race, described as an all yachts race," which was won by Bona, from Uniekah the Socond. Venessa, the winner of the Sayonara Cup recently, was fourth. She defeated tho Victorian challenger Aerospire IV. by over five minutes. The 18-footers' race was won by Mississippi, with Arakoon second. The P. and O. linor Maloja was the flagship, on which were tho GovernorGeneral, Lord Stonehaven; the Premier of New South Wales, Mr. T. R. Bavin, and other prominent persons, whoso speeches all referred with regret to the impending departure of Lord Stonehaven, whoso term is expiring. Tho harbour presented a fine sight. Ships were dressed in bunting and scores of yachts competed in tho various races.
