SIR HARRY BATTERBEE. ASSISTANT UNDER-SECRETARY. (Received January 27. 6.55 p.m.) British Wireless. RUGBY, Jan. 26. The Secretary of State for the Dominions, Lord Passfield, has appointed Sir Harry Batterbee assistant Parliamentary Under-Secretary to that department in succession to Sir Edward Harding. The appointment of Sir Edivard as Permanent Under-Secretary was announced last week.

Sir Harry Fagg Batterbee was political secretary to the vice-admiral commanding the special service squadron which toured the Empire, 1923-24. Also he was political secretary to the Duke of x oik on his tour of New Zealand and Australia in 1927. After that tour ho received a knighthood. Born in 1880 he was educated at Faversham School and Oxford University. He entered the Colonial Office in 1905. From 1916-19 he was private secretary to the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
