By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright, (Received January 28, 12.35 a.m.) SYDNEY. Jan. 27.
Mr. F. C. Chichester, the New Zealand airman, who landed at Darwin on Saturday after a solo flight from England, leftfcDanvin again yesterday morning for Sydney. His intention was to fly via Brunette Downs, Cloncurry and Charleville in easy stages.
When the 1 airman arrived at the Brunette Downs station he found there were no residents there. This morning he took the air" again, but was forced down four miles from the township of Camooweal owing to a shortage of petrol. He had breakfast there and then went to the township to secure a further supply of fuel. A message from Camooweal states that Mr. Chichester is still there. His future movements are uncertain owing to fain. Camooweal is situated on a plain in Queensland in the county of Nowrana. It is about seven miles south of the border of the Northern Territory. INTEREST IN ENGLAND. MESSAGES TO THE AIRMAN. COMPLIMENTED ON FEAT. (Received January 27, 5.15 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 26. The news of Mr. Chichester's success in flying from England to Australia was broadcast throughout Britain. Many messages were despatched to him complimenting him on his pluck and perseverance. Unstinted praise is given to Mr. Chichester by the Daily Telegraph's aviation expert. He says' his untrumpeted exploit stands out as one of the really big Mights, not only as an example of ..pluck and determination, but as illustrating convincingly the utility of light two-seater machines. ' ,
The writer says Mr. Chichester is not a professional airman or mechanician and therefore is unlike Hinkler, who had thousands of flying hours' experience. In every respect except that of his attainment he is purely an amateur. It was a-bold undertaking, for, after he had left the well-beaten air route to India, Mr. Chichester was dependent upon his own resources.
