FATAL FALL ON SHIP.
DEATH OF CARPENTER.
ACCIDENT ON KAIRANGA.
STEP BACKWARDS OFF DECK.
Fatal injuries were sustained by Mr. Henry Gracock, aged 47, carpenter, as the result of a fall while working on the Union Steam Ship Company's vessel Kairanga at Queen's Wharf yesterday morning. Mr. Gracock was employed with two other workmen in moving a vegetable locker to a new position on the boatdeck. When the locker was in its new position he stepped back, over-balanced and fell a distance of 7it. to the iron well deck of the boat, striking his head on the companionway in his fall. The injured man was picked up unconscious and was immediately taken to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance. He was found to have sustained a fracture of the skull and an operation was performed. His death occurred about five o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Gracock was married, residing at 21, Melford Street, Ponsonby.
