WOMEN IN BUSINESS.
The managing director of a big London firm, presiding at a conference of drapers and allied traders praised the part which women were taking in the development of their businesses. He described as "nonsense" a statement in a newspaper, recently, that there was danger in having women in business. " We in the drapery trade," lie added, "employ more women than any other trade. Ia the retail drapery trade there are more highly paid" women than in any other trade in the world. They are directors of great companies; they are members of executives, and we rejoice in their largesalaries. " " Ono woman in the trade is reported as earning over £3OOO ,a year. I think I am voicing the opinion of every member in the great retail distributive trades when I say wo are proud of the contribution that Woinen are making to the. efficiency and development *of our trade, which ,<s peculiarly their own. "We have 110 fear of them, but are proud to place at their disposal our experience, and help them to obtain positions side by side with us, riot as competitors, but as colleagues."
