MATRICULATION.
Sir, —I have read Mr. Harold Schmidt's letter on the above subject and agree that it is scandalous that only matriculated persons are eligible to learn skilled trades. What is going to happen to all our boys ? Must 90 per cent, of these lads be forced to grow up as unskilled workers, just to provide a monopoly for the matriculation? This is a national matter and it is to be hoped that the Labour Party will see that their class is not any longer imposed upon. If a lad adopts a trade or profession, serves his apprenticeship and passes his examinations therein, what has matriculation got to do with it, more especially as the latter in many, if not all, instances must precede any apprenticeship whatsoever? What are we doing or going to do for our boys, anyway ? Ojiega.
