VALUABLE FLAX BURNED. CANAL CHECKS THE FLAMES. [BV TELEC.RAPK. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] KEKEPEEHE,'Monday. A large area of scrub-covered swamp south of what is known as the Kerepcehi block caught fire about 10 o'clock on Saturday morning. The fire spread in all directions, but mainly toward the Elstow Canal. Much valuable standing flax was destroyed. It was reported today that the canal had checked the progress of the flames.
