NORWICH CITY WRECK.

CERTIFICATES FOR AUCKLANDERS [BX TELEGRAX'H.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Several awards for bravery have been made by the Court of * Directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand. Six native members of the crew of the wlialeboat that went to the rescue of the survivors of the wrecked steamer City of Norwich at Gardner Island, Phoenix Group, received recognition. The steersman o£ the boat was awarded the silver medal and the others the bronze medal. Mr. J. H. Osborne, of Helerisville, was awarded the bronze medal for conspicuous bravery in rescuing Mr. A. J. Skelton, of Helensville, from an attack by a bull. Mr. Osborne had previously been awarded the society's silver medal. Sidney Grounsall, aged 13, of Wellington, was awarded a letter of commendation for rescuing a boy from drowning in the Wellington Boat Harbour on January 27, 1929. A ■ letter of commendation was also awarded Harry Ken- Long, enginedriver, of Cob'den, who rescued a child from drowning at Rapahoe on March 10, 1929.

Messrs. Trevor Blomfield and J. S. Kinnear, of Auckland, were awarded the society's certificate for attempting to rescue a man from drowning in a heavy sea at the mouth of Waitakere River on the west coast.

Mr. Leslie Peter Fox, aged 29, caretaker of the Wellington Harbour Board, was awarded a certificate of merit for rescuing a boy from drowning on April 10, 1529.

Air. Trevor Blomfield and Mr. J. S. Ivinnear were concerned in a gallant attempt to save the life of Mr. H. J. Adams, who was drowned while bathing at the mouth of .the Waitakere River on the west coast on January 29, 1929. The two men succeeded in bringing Mr. Adams into comparatively shallow water, but as both were in an exhausted state, Mr. Blomfield swam to the beach to secure .a rope. Mr. Kinnear supported Mr. Adams for some time, but was compelled to release his hold. Mr. Kinnear collapsed on reaching the beach, but Mr. Blomfield swam out with a rope attached to himself. He approached within 30 yards of Mr. Adams when he saw him disappear under the water.
