CARNERA IN THE RING.
OPPONENT KNOCKED OUT. CONTEST OVER IN ONE ROUND. (Received January 26, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK. Jan. 25. The giant Italian boxer knocked out Peterson in one round last evening. There were 20,000 spectators. The winner entered the ring at 2691b. and the loser at 2091b.
Almost at the outset Peterson slapped the giant in the face. After that Carnera opened up with terrific lefts and knocked Peterson down four times, the fourth occasion being a knock-out.
The spectators, who had been hoping that the contest would show some indication of Camera s actual ability treated the result for the most part as a joke foxPeterson did nothing but bounce up and down from the canvas for a brief time and then remain down. However, sporting writers express surprise that Peterson withstood as many blows as he did for the Italian demonstrated terrific power and showed speed and agility surprising in a man of his weight.
