AID TO INDUSTRY.
GOVERNMENT SURVEY SHIP. (Received January 2G, 5.45 p.m.) British Wireless. RUGBY, Jan. 25. Important plans to help the fishing industry were announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Philip Snowden, in the House of Commons yesterday. A survey vessel for the better exploration and discovery of new fishing grounds is to be built at a cost of £BO.OOO. The running expenses, estimated at £34,000 a year for the next five years, are also to be paid by the Exchequer. The ship is to be constructed and equipped by the Admiralty in naval dockyards, find is to operate under control of the Chief Hydrographer of the Navy.
The construction and maintenance of this vessel by the Government is in accordance with the recommendation of the committee which was set up in October, and which only yesterday presented its interim report.
