CHARGE OF BIGAMY.
YOUNG MAN FROM ENGLAND.
MARRIED ON DAY OF SAILING. POSED AS HOLDER OF TITLE. " As far as u-e know accused is a bird of passage," said Chief-Detective Hammond in the Police Court yesterday when Arthur Ronald Harris, aged 34, motor salesman, was charged with having committed bigamy in England on October 4.
Mr. Hammond added that a cablegram had been received from England stating that accused' had committed bigamy on October 4 and had sailed for Now Zealand on the same day. He was being held on a provisional warrant and his extradition was desired. On the boat accused had got into the good graces of a woman and her daughter, stating that he was the holder of a title and was a medical student.
In applying Tor bail, Mr. Smyth, who appeared for. accused, said that although the man had not been in the Dominion long he had already established a school of motoring which was bringing him in about £5 a week. If he were kept in prison the business he had built up would be gone. Accused was remanded for eight days, bail being allowed at £250, on condition that accused reported to the polico daily.
