THE RINKS CHAMPIONSHIP.

[SUCCESS OF STUART'S TEAM.

LAMBETH WINS SINGLES. CARLTON;. STILL IN PAIRS. '[by telegraph.—press association.] DUNEDIN. Friday. Another delightful day was experienced for the Dominion bowling tournament. Finality was reached in the rinks and singles competitions. A St. Kilda team, skipped by D. M. Stuart, won the rinks championship, while another link from the same clnb filled second place.

The rinks final resulted in an easy win for Stuart, who led by 25 points to 9 at the end of 19 heads. As the opposing team led by Adess then had to get possible number of points on two heads to tie, Adess retired from the contest. Stuart ran into a strong lead soon after the start and was never seriously threatened with defeat." At one stage Adess and his men resorted to driving tactics and the 17th head was burnt no fewer than three times.

In the final of the singles F. Lambeth (Balmaccwen) beat P. Vance .(Sumner) by six points. Vance led by 11 points "to 2 when, seven heads had been played, but in the next, four ends Lam--beth reduced his lead to one, and the scores were 15 all at the end of 17 heads. After that Lambeth did all the scoring. At the commencement of the game a tricky wind prevailed, making accurate play somewhat difficult, but taken nil round the game .was an interesting one, although on a few heads play was hardly up to championship standard. In- one of the green finals in the pairs competition the game between Tamblyn (St. Kilda) and Thomson (Southland) was very even in the early stages, but ,from the 17th head onward Tamblyn had matters practically his own way and prevailed by 20 points to 17. The green final between Cooper (Southland) and Stuart (St. Kilda) provided some fairly tall scoring. A lead of 7on the first three heads stood Cooper in good - stead and after 11 heads had been played he led by 20 points to 10, finishing the winner, 27 —23. The game between Nelson and Ardell in the first round: of the post-section play resulted ' in' a comfortable win for the former, the game ending on the 15th head, .with the scores 24—10 in his favour.

In ..the game , between Jenkin (Carlton) and Nelson in- Ihe second round the'former made a good start and at the end of the 15th head led by 24 points to 10. Nelson then made a good recovery and at the finish there was a difference of only five points, tha scores being 25—20 in Jenkin's favour. In the~ third roupd Burgess scored an easy victory over Fastier by 29 points to 17. Following are detailed results of the rinks games:—Semi-final: -Stuart (St. ' Kilda), 26, beat. Veitch (West Harbour), 38; Adess, a bye. Final: E. S- Wilson, J Buist, J. Dowland and D. M. Stuart (St. Kilda), 25, beat W. R. Todd, T. O'Sullivan, E. H, Tamblvn and G. Adess (St. Kilda), 9.

The tournament will be concluded tomorrow, when the remaining games in the pairs competition will be decided. Only four are; left in. They are: Burgess (Hokonui), who has reached the final, Tainblyn (St. Kilda), Jenkin (.Carlton), and Cooper (Southland).

STUART'S DECISIVE WIN

GOOD ..CONTEST IN SINGLES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN* CORRESPONDENT. 1 DUXEDIN. Friday. The final game in the rinks between the two St. Kilda teams. Stuart and Adess, was watched by a crowd of spectators that packed the four sides of the green. The opening head was somewhat wide and Stuart notched 3. He added a single on the next. Adess' men were failing to find the green and Stuart lay several shots when the skips changed ends in the third head. Adess, moved the jack with his last bowl and Stuart, got four, making him 8 up. The fourth head yielded one to Stuart, Adess'failing - twice with raking shots in an effort to make two. On the fifth head iv great effort by Stuart turned 2- down into 2 up. Adess trailed the jack "and secured a single. The ninth head was the best played so far. Stuart's third/ drew toucher, but Adess forced him off for one, and with his next turned it into two, but Stuart with a splendid draw canv- to rest on the jack, making the score 12—2. Stuart continued to gain points, Adess' men failed badly on the 13th, where Stuart added four. On the 16th the score was' 22—6 in his favour. Adess burnt three heads in succession and the game appeared to have developed into an endurance test. It ended on the 19th head, when Stuart got a single and won thechampionship, 25—9. A tricky wind was blowing when a start was - made in the final of the Dominion singles bowling championship between Vance (Sumner) and Lambeth (Balmacfiwen. A long head was thrown by Lambeth, who was the first to score. But Vance led 3—2 after the third .head. Vance steadily increased his lead, playing some excellent shots, and on the feeventh head the score read:—Vance, 10; Lambeth, 2. However, Lambeth then started to make up the leeway, and when the 11th head was played he was only one down, the score being 11—10. With 14 head. l ) played Vance led 14—11, but with five heads to go was in the lead, 15—14. for the first time since the opening head. On the. 17th the score ■wa.s even, 15-.a 11. \ ance was short with his fust three on the 10th and Lambeth drew a fine shot with his third which Vance raked off to be 2. Lambeth, however, was equal to the occasion'and again close counter and led 16—15 with three heads to go

In the 19th Vance was narrow, but lay shot. Lambeth's second was a splen did one which rested a few inches in front of the jack. Vance trailed n j,- c |y jwith his third, but Lambeth si ill had the shot by a narrow margin. Lambeth was short with his last and Vance was wide and favour. Lamlieth notched 2 on the next head.

Both were strong with their first bowls on the final head.' Vance got the shot •with his second. Lambeth.drew first shot with his last and Vance drove and missed Lambeth notched a 2, winning by six points and annexing the singles championship of.the Dominion for 1,930. In the pairs game between Gladding ) and Jenkin (Carlton) and Steel and Nelson (Dunedin) a very tricky wind proved disconcerting to the players. Jenkin held the lead from the start and was 4 U n on the sixth.
