MOTORING ACCIDENTS.

CYCLE STRIKES A ROCK< ,

RIDER COLLAPSES BY CLIFF.

LONG PERIOD UNCONSCIOUS.

[BY TELEGRAM. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DARGAVILLE, Monday. As a result of his motor-cycle striking a rock on the West Coast beach" below Bayly's Gorge on Saturday evening, Mr. James Connell, of Dargaville, was- admitted to the} Northern Wairoa Hospital suffering from concussion. The accident occurred at about 9.30 o'clock. Council was riding to Maulo's Gorge and had cycled from Dargaville on to the beach by way of Chase's Gqrge. About two miles down the beach he assisted in the extrication of a car driven by Mr. 'P. C. Davcy, which had become stuck in the sand. The car continued down the beach and Mr. Connell set out tp follow the car tracks.

Mr. Davey and Mr. N. McDonald, who was also in the car, noticed after a short distance, had been covored that tho cycle was not behind them, With Messrs. E. French and W. Edwards, who were in another car, they waited, and when Mr. Connell did not appear they motored back along tho beach and found that after striking a rock ho had pushed his cycle up to the cliff and had walked a ffw chains before collapsing. Tho cycle was not damaged.

The injured man was brought to Maulo's Gorge and was accommodated at Mrs. Alfred Smith's house. He remained in a semi-conscious condition throughout the night and yesterday morning, after endeavours to summon a medical man had proved unsuccessful, he was brought to Dargaville on a stretcher on Mr. Smith's van. Examination showed that he had sustained concussion and he remained unconscious until this morning. His condition is better to-day.

HEAVY TRUCK AND CAR.

INJURIES TO TWO PERSONS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Monday. A collision occurred at Helena Bay yesterday between a heavy truck crowded with picnickers and a car driven by Mr. Warrington, who was accompanied by his wife. The radiator and steering gear of tho lorry were badly damaged and the car suffered extensively. Mr. and Mrs. Warrington both suffered bruises and abrasions. Mrs. Warrington is also suffering from shock.

CAR FORCED THROUGH FENCE.

MISHAP AT HAMILTON.

[Bl* TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Monday. A collision between a car driven by Mr. T. E. Strnchan, of Otorolianga, and a lorry owned by Mr: .E. R. William* and driven by, Mr. H. Scatchard,. of Hamilton, at'the corner of Thackeray and Milton Streets,-Hamilton, to day. 'i'he car was .forced through a wire fence surrounding the Hamilton Croquet Club's green. Both vehicles were severely damaged, but the occupants were not hurt.

DAMAGE TO TWO CARS.

COLLISION NEAR NGARUAWAHIA

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Monday. Two cars suffered extensive damage as the result of a collision on the Main South Road near Ngaruawahia last evening. One car was driven by Mr. W. J. Livingstone, of Hamilton, and the other by Mr.' Hard ley, junior, of Auckland. No one was injured.

MISHAPS ON THAMES COAST.

ONE CAR WRECKED ON BEACH,

There were three minor motor accidents on the Thames Coast Road yesterday. One car containing three people left the road close to Thornton's Bay and ran into a boulder. Another boulder became wedged between the wheel and. the chassis, and the car ran on to the beach, which at this spot is boulder strewn. The car jy'as wrecked. The three passengers escaped with a shaking, but the driver, Mr. A. Smith, was slightly cut by the broken windscreen. Late last night a car, the property of Mr. Elvin, of Turua, left the road near the Tararu Cemetery, and capsized over the sea wrtll. A passing motorist, fearing that 4 some persons were pinned underneath, sent for. the • police, who waded into the surf and found nobody. In the meantime Mi\ Elvin, junr., had been taken to the liospital by another passenger. Two young ladies, also passengers, received a; severe shaking.

RIDER'S SKULL FRACTURED,

Leo Brian, of Mornona, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday with a severe fracture of his skull, received when he was thrown from a - motor-cycle on the East Taieri' Road. • lie had not regained consciousness this morning.
