BY PHAETON. • Advices to hand from Wellington point, to the stable mates Star Stranger and Knightlike as a popular fancy for the Wellington Cup. and. Telegraph Handicap. Concentrate and Cimabue, wlio also luiil fiom tho one stable, are also apparently in good repute in connection with tho double event set down for decision at Trentham tomorrow. A SMART SPRINTER. CONSISTENT MEADOW LARK. Meadow Lark, who is ticked off aB a likely winner at tho Wellington Summer Meeting, is a five-year-old gelding by Songbird from the Markhopo maro Unawed. At the Canterbury Spring Meeting last November Meadow Lark won tho Members' Handicap (soven furlongs) under 7.9 in the fast time of 1m 21 l-ss, and at tho Dunedin Summer Meeting he scored a victory .in the Federal Handicap (six furlongs) under 9.3. Going on to Southland, he won the Flying Handicap under 9.8, and lie capped that performance by scoring a victory in the Shorts Handicap, in which event he carried tho steadier of 10.1. Songbird, sire of Meadow Lark, who is by Kilbroney, put up some fine performances »t three years old, a brilliant victory in the Great EastCr Handicap at Riccarton being included in his exploits.

MISCELLANEOUS NOTES. TBEBLE CUP WINNER. Blimp, who distinguished himself in tbe decision of thtf Foxton Cup last Wednesday, was raced at three and four years old by Dr. M. Or. Louisson, and he paid his way satisfactorily under that sportsman's colours, the Nolan Gold Cup and Napier Cup being among his captures. When Blimp made a reappearance on the scene this season he did so in the nomination of Mr. C. T. Keeble, and it was under the latter's colours he,won the Foxton Cup. PRODICE. The withdrawal of Prodice from the Wellington Cup is calculated to Bap a good deal of Auckland interest out of tho big race at Trcntham. In. the Shade, who still figures in the race, hails from an Auckland stable, but ho is owned outside the local area, and in addition was bred outside the Dominion. Prodice was not harshly treated with B.*), but in a survey of the situation Mr, F. E. Loorrib, the owner-trainer of the Catmint mare, evidently deemed it wise (o await something easier.
