BATTLE OF THE FROCKS.
There is more thnn a frivolous significance in the long and short skirt battle. Ostensibly it is a conspiracy among the designers to impose certain fashions on modern woman. Actually, wo feel it is a sinister move to enslave the feminist, states a London writer.
The return of the long skirt may be the first move toward the crinoline, and the rrinolino is a symbol of subjection. Fashion is far more, than a question of pretty frocks and hats, scarves and gloves. It is psychological. If the long skirt returns, it will bring with it- an old-fashioned attitude, and " this freedom " that required a world war to achievo may become a thing of the past. There are a few Victorian stalwarts left who will welcome such a change, but it remains to lie seen whether women are more, interested in frocks than they arc in life-
If this is the. case they art; not, fitted for the vole. A philosopher might see in the machinations of the dress designers h subtle move to deprive women of their hard-won privileges.
