CHINESE QUARTERMASTER.
CAPTAIN DEPOSITS BOND

WELLINGTON, Tuesday,
The Chinese quartermaster of the oiltank ship Akera, which has been discharging motor spirits at Wellington, was missed from the vessel this morning. The Chinese members of the crews of visiting vessels are pi-ohibited from remaining in New Zealand, and the masters of these ships are responsible for a £2OO forfeit for each Chinese in the event of any staying here. Captain Lindstol, of the Akera, was required to deposit a bond of £2OO with the customs officials for the missing man before the vessel sailed on the return to the East. The man will be sought by the police and if apprehended will be deported.
