BRIDGE ACROSS WAIKATO.

CRITICISM OF PROPOSAL.

Unfavourable comment upon the proposed stock bridge across the Waikato River south of Hamilton was made at a meeting of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce last evening. Mr. E. V.'Stace said he did not think proposals for placing the bridge well outside the town were satisfactory. However, 011' account of the congestion of traffic, in the main, street, arid, the unsatisfactory condition of the present traffic bridge, the early construction of a new bridge was advisable. Mr. B. C. Lowry asked whether the amount of slock carried by the traffic bridge was sufficient to make the construction of a special stock bridgo' necessary.' Mr. F. H. Clapliam assured him that the proposed structure was urgently required for this purpose. The chairman, Mr. D.- Seymour,. said the scheme for a dual purpose bridge, carrying vehicular and railway ' traffic, appealed to him as the ideftl solution of the problem. - On the motion of Mr. Lowry it was decided to support a proposal for the erection of a traffic bridge in a central position, the site to bo fixed by a commission.
