SWIMMING.

CARNIVALS FOR VISITORS. What promise to be exciting contests will take place at the Tepid Baths on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, when the Australian swimming champions, Noel Ryan and Owen Griffiths, will compete against Auckland's foremost swimmers. Ryan, who is only 17 years of age. is hailed in Australia as a potential world's champion and is the best swimmer Australia has produced, excepting the famous "Boy" Charlton, Great as may be the prowess of Ryan, he will meet a formidable opponent in G. Bridson, the New Zealand middle-distance champion. In fact the Auckland swimmer has faster time to his credit for 440 yds than has the Australian. Ryan's best time for this distance last Reason was 5m 17 l-ss, while Bridson's record-breaking time last week was 5m 16 3-ss. As Ryan is expected to improve his time this season thero should be little between the two swimmers when they participate in the 440 yds invitation scratch race to be decided on Wednesday evening. The chief attraction of Thursday evening's programme will be the 220 yds scratch race. Besides the meeting of Ryan and Bridson tho presence of Griffiths will invest this event with added interest. Griffiths will also oppose the leading Auckland sprinters in the 100 yds event and a stirring race is promised.
