MOTOR-CYCLE RACING.
WESTERN SPRINGS STADIUM.
A crowd of approximately 1500 people witnessed the final trials tho Western Springs Stadium cinder track last evening. For tho first time racing was practised under the glare of powerful floodlights, tho effect being very spectacular. Local riders havo improved wonderfully during the week and last night three local men equalled the existing Now Zealand record which was established in Wellington. Minor alterations will ho made to the lights, which will shine more directly on competitors, and the track will then lie ready for the opening meeting to-morrow evening,
Two of Australia's crack cinder exponents, A. Matin and S. Perkins, stated that tho formation of tho track was splendid and was equal to anything in Australia. A. Herbert, a popular Auckland man, who had experience in New South Wales last season, is of opinion that tho Auckland track is faster and safer than anything he rode on in Australia. Perkins gavo a thrilling exhibition of broadsiding, but his team-mate was confident that he had plonty up his sleeve for tomorrow.
