STOCKS AND SHARES.

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

LITTLE BUSINESS DONE.

Little business was done at the two calls on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when a half-holiday was observed to enable members to attenc| the official openinr of tho War Memorial Museum.

Tho market for gilt-edged securities was practically unchanged. Thero was a demand for practically all classes of Government investments, but sellers were hard to locate. In commercial debentures New Zealand Breweries were wanted 2d firmer at 28s 2d.

Intorest in banks was again weak. Commercials, of Australia were dono 3d cheaper at 27s 2d, after which offers dropped a penny on the initial inquiry to 275. Further ground was lost by Now South Wales, which were sought at £46 15s, compared with yesterday's offers of £47, and sellers' made a further concession from £47 10s to £47 ss. In the caso of New Zealands buying limits moved up and the market closed 5d firmer than on the previous day. Both issues of Nationals of Australasia were- listed ex div., but buyers were not interested and sellers did not quote. Interest was maintained in insurance, but in two cases slightly lower levels prevailed. New Zealands made a current-price sale at 465.

Variations in other groups were slight and unimportant. In mining Waihis wero wanted at the level of latest sales, offers advancing from 12s 9d to 13s, but they remained nntaken with sellers quoting 13s Id. Mount Lyells, which wore sought at the first call at 425, changed hands 3d easier at 42s 3d, after which offers >vero renowed at 41s 9d.
