POWER LOAN CARRIED.
PROPOSAL IN WAITEMATA.
AUTHORITY TO RAISE £IOO,OOO. SMALL NUMBER OF VOTERS. The Waitemata Electric-Power Board's £IOO,OOO loan proposal was carried at a poll of ratepayers yesterday by 1579 votes to 216. 'Of the loan only £30,000 is required for work in the near future, and it will be used for the provision of new lines in outlying districts. The loan authorisation of £IOO,OOO was applied for so that adequate finance would be available as required. Of the total of 14,061 ratepayers only 1808 recorded their votes. Thirteen informal papers were returned. The returns from Titirangi, Upper Waiwera and Whangaparaoa had not been received last evening. A remarkable feature of the poll is that the boroughs and town boards, which are reticulated, recorded ten times as many votes for the proposal as against, while the county area, which is only partially served, returned 403 votes for and 83 against, or approximately only five times the number. The proposal received a favourable vote at all the booths. The polling closed at 7 p.m. and nithin a few minutes the returns started to come in to the returning officer, Mr. A. Main, at the board's office. They were all in and the totals made up by 7.45.
The last poll held by the board was in connection with an £30,000 loan proposal in 1927, when 2526 ratepayers voted. The proposal was carried by 2112 to 407, seven informal votes being recorded.
