LOSS OF BORROWED HORSE.

OWNER AWARDED SUM OF £25.

[BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES. Wednesday.

In a case heard before Mr. F. W. Platts. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court, Donald McCauley, of Pipiroa, was awarded £25 for the loss of a horso borrowed by H. L. Laing, now of To Hoe, but who was once a neighbour of plaintiff.

Plaintiff contended that tho horso re ccived an injury to its leg while on de fendant's farm.

Tho magistrate said defendant was in tho position of being of gratuitous bailee and was clearly liable for any hurt to tho horse. The evidence for the defence was by no means reliable, but that of tho veterinary surgeon was particularly valuable and straightforward. Costs amounting to £l2 Is 3d were given against defendant, in addition to the valuo of tho horse.
