MEMORIAL TO HAIG.

CONTROVERSY OVER STATUE.

STATEMENT MADE BY WIDOW. LONDON, Nov. 20. It seems that Countess Haig wishes to have nothing more to do with Mr. A. F. Hardiman, the sculptor, whose statue of the late Earl Haig provoked a heated controversy in England. Tn a statement to the Daily Lady Ilaig said that sho attended the last meeting of the Haig Statue Committee, and was asked to help Mr. Hardiman to make a new model. She refused on tho ground that the artist's first conception showed that lie did not understand Earl Haig's character, and ex-servicemen felt that they wanted to see a true model of the carl as they knew him on the battlefield.

She also pointed out that the £7OOO voted' by Parliament was already money wasted. A further model would mean the loss of £2OO if executed by Mr. Hardiman. She had since heard nothing.
